Bottle Cap Game

Area: Sensory, Fine Motor, Cognition
Daily Routine: Playtime, Bathtime
Developmental Age Range: 7-12 Months, 13-18 Months
Description:

Place various size bottle caps on a plastic tray or cookie sheet to keep them within the baby’s reach. Encourage the baby to explore the bottle caps and put them in the container. For added sensory development, shake the container and have the baby listen to the sound the bottle caps make. Then support the baby in reaching into the container and pulling the bottle caps out of the box through the hole in the lid. You may need to use hand-over-hand or hand-under-hand until the baby is familiar with the activity. This activity can be done in a high chair or another supportive sitting device, as well as during bath time (try using objects that float instead of bottle caps). This game will help to develop fine motor skills, such as grasp and release. It will also help to develop concepts like object permanence.

Needed Materials:

1. Empty baby wipe container or tissue box
2. Assortment of plastic bottle caps (i.e. size, texture, color, etc.)
3. Cookie sheet, plastic tray or another similar container
