The EIVIprofessionals.com site is especially for teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists serving infants and toddlers with visual impairments. We call these professionals early intervention visual impairment (EIVI) professionals. EIVIprofessionals.com was set up as a “one-stop-shop” for housing resources, understanding recommended practices, and sharing intervention ideas. In addition, we will maintain a calendar of events that are specifically of interest to EIVI professionals. We welcome your input as the content for the site is generated for professionals by professionals. We hope that, together, we can grow this resource in a way that will be helpful to those serving very young children with visual impairments and their families in early intervention.
EIVIprofessionals.org was developed using grant funds from the US Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs. The grant, EL VISTA: Early Learning Visual Impairment Services, Training, and Advancement (H325K140108), was awarded to Illinois State University to address personnel shortages in EIVI specifically in Illinois. We will increase the number and quality of teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists trained to work with infants and toddlers. This site will not only support newly trained EIVI professionals in Illinois, but will also provide a platform for collaboration and education throughout the nation.
